Service disconnect

Is a service disconnect required if the panel in the house is more than ten feet away from the point the service enter's the structure
 
Authority Having Jurisdiction will judge how far inside a building the disconnect can be and then 230.91 tells us the over current protection will either be an integral part of the disconnect or be located right next to it .

If the feeder supplying the panel is on the outside of the home and is more then 10 feet, would you still need a service disconnect if only 2 feet of cable was inside the home?
 
I believe Ray's question is the ever-popular how-far-can-the-unprotected-service-cable-enter-the-building one.

The answer is the ubiquitous ask-your-inspection-department one. (You or whoever's pulling the permit.)

seems like the ahj does not like it to be over three feet here...i do not like doing it ,i would rather just install meter panel combo outside to be honest!!

I hate out side panels, disconnects are another thing.

My house is 18 years old and the NEMA 3R AC disconnects need replacing from weather, I hate to have to replace my panels every 18 years.


Besides a NEMA 3R panel still lets humidity in affecting the CBs over the long run.
 
Just fyi, your local fire department would really love you to install an external disconnect. It makes turning off the power for them so much safer and easier. As for your question, check with your ahj.
