another service needed

Looking for a solution for outside lighting attached to an aircraft hanger. The building has a six unit meter pack with disconnects feeding panels in rented units of the aircraft hanger. The problem, by design the outside lighting is being fed from one of the hanger units. Now they want to have a separate meter for the lighting that would require the seventh service disconnect?..not good but possible.

Keep in mind that the land around the building is covered with asphalt and overhead conductors would be out of the question around an airport. Thought about putting a main ahead of the meter pack but it is rated as service equipment only (no way to split N and G) also the poco said no to having a disconnect ahead of the meters.

Any suggestions?

Emon-Dmon makes a wattmeter you can install to monitor the consumption of the outside lights. Install the meter at the panel where the outside light circuit(s) are derived from. Simply read the meter each month and you will have the KWH used.

If you have more than 6 meters at a location, I would think the POCO would have to let you have a disconnect before the meters.

Either that, or ask them to propose some other solution. They have left you with no legal way to provide the lighting.

Thanks, very good thought, electrically this would work. Politically not so, say the Air Board member that oversees the hanger. Then there is the PSC which they say you can?t resell electricity.

most PUCs say you cant resell electricity, but that means you cannot resell it for a profit. You can submeter for the purpose of splitting up the bill. You just cant make a profit on the submetered electricity. I have yet to see rules stating otherwise.
