Yes, the hvac guy needs to change out the pump.

I think he means the gfci trips but the pump runs fine when you take out the GFCI

Yes the pump trips the gfci rec. but would then run fine with a non-gfci rec.

That means there is a problem with the condensate pump. The only way around that is to get a direct wired condensate and I am not sure they make one-- I think they make them 240v but not sure about 120v.

Try swapping out the GFI... maybe it's bad.

If it still trips, then the GFI is doing it's job.
