Is there a code reference? I am building a house right now that has a chimmney hood, and I tacked it on to the SABC. There is a separate circuit for a micro as well in another area of the kitchen.

That is a violation of 210.52 B 1 and maybe 110.3 B

If the rangehood is cord and plug connected take a look at 422.16(B)(4).

Here is the problem, today its a hood (still can't be on SA, Year from now its over the range micro. For reasons i don't know a counter top is fine on SA but if over range needs own circuit. It's NEC does not need any logic.

The 05 NEC was the first time this requirement came into the code.
