ELA, it is my understanding that the internal parts of the same grade and brand of 15 and 20 amp receptacles are identical. Only the face is different.
I've more than once picked up a brand new GFI put it in and it doesn't act like it should. They can be finnicky sometimes.
That's the price we pay for mass production.
No I am not concerned with my wiring. I have a GFCI breaker feeding the bath circuits. If you're concerned about your wiring, install a 20a bath circuit and use a GFI breaker and a commercial-grade receptacle.
true. only pressure plated connections are possible on 12 wire, but only Tony knows if this gfi was on a 20A circuit or a 15A circuit. 14 years ago, bath gfi's were not required to be on a 20A circuit.
It's also only an inch or so in length. The Leviton brass or other alloy leaf spring that supports the silver contact is 0.012" x 0.130" or 0.00156 sq-in. This is between the cross sectional area of #17 and #18 and it is not copper so the resistivity is somewhat greater. However, it is sort of in free air.
