A friend of mine just asked me a question I can?t answer maybe some one can help.
He just delivered to N.J. some 600 kcmil in black purple pink and green and has working for this company for years and never saw these colors before and wanted to know what they are used for, I have no idear.

They could be used for a lot of things
what type of insulation
XXHW, THW, THWN, USE???

hard to discuss the application of the product with out the specifications.

I had never seen wire that size in those colors before and was just wondering. and it was a special order

It wasn't necessarily anything special. The color in the insulation is just a concentrate added during extrusion. It isn't at all hard (for the manufacturer, I mean) to get a variety of colors. The wire manufacturer I once worked for was very proud of themselves when they could offer purple insulation. I think one of their customers wanted it for one of their applications.

I couldn't start to say what he's using it for.

I did once have a job where we used every color we could find and even different shades of some simply because we found that it was easier to trouble shot any problems. When you went to the panel you didn't have to worry if the directory was right as long as you could see the color wire on the breaker.

I thought maybe UPS power or something. and it is special order in 600KCLM stock colors are blue, black, red, white, brown, orange, yellow, gray and green any thing else is a special order. These colors have not been stock for very long I remember when you wanted colors in a KCLM you had it striped, now with the market the way it is colors are no big deal.
