Disconnect mounted with gravity

I work at Mcmurdo station in Antarctica and was trying to locate a refrence for mounting disconnects so that gravity will aid in turning them off (off would be in the down position). I could swear I have read something in the NEC about this, or am I losing my mind already? (we still have a tiny bit of light here)

Welcome to the forum South pole!!

iwire listed the only reference. If you read through it you'll see it only applies to knife switches.

Hey, South Pole,
Nice to meet you!
So do you winter over there.
A neighbor of mine spent some time there in the 90's. What an experience he said.

Southpole, if you dont mind me asking are you there with raytheon? and what the hourly rate is? just asking because i got a job offer to go there but it didnt seem worth it at the time besides for the adventure;)

I hear it's Income tax free!!!

disconnect switches are designed (spring loaded) not to become partially disengaged from the circuit. if that were to happen the switch would likely burn out faster. If the switch can -fall open- get rid of it.

Yes, I'm here with Raytheon and most do come here for the adventure, not the money. As the electrical foreman I made $67,000 for ten months last year, which included my bonus. It's OK, but I could have made six figures back home for the same time. Our hourly wage here is only 19.50/hr for a 54 hr week, but I will get a 28% bonus at the end of my contract. Add on the fact that you can vacation in New Zealand, or other places for next to nothing, and it can be somewhat desireable for those of us who can't afford to travel the world on a normal budget.
Work is rather easy, not a lot of pressure, and everything is paid for, food, lodging, etc. Not tax free though; this is not considered a forgein country, only a continent which no one owns. We have Armed Forces radio and television down here, lots of DVD's, music, exercise equipment, and plenty of outdoor activities, if you can put up with the cold (right now about -25). Penguins are all gone for the winter, besides, they really don't like us humans anyways. Scott base (Kiwi's/NewZealand) is right down the road from us, and other countries are at respective bases throughout the continent.
Thanks for the answer/interest!

John
