I'm looking at some electrical lighting plans and I'm having a really hard time figuring out why some of the wiring between fixtures shows 3 wires (not including ground) and sometimes 2 wires (not including ground). The homerun (which shows only two wires)indicates power is only coming off of one breaker. The lights are all 120V and the panel is 208/120. This idea of a "traveling conductor" for light switches (single pole 3-way and such) is really confusing to me and I think this is where the 3rd wire comes from. Can someone please explain how they approach the wiring aspect of electrical design and when to indicate an extra wire to the switch? Thanks for your time and I would appreciate any help.
