Grouning impedance location

I am reviewing a set of plans that contains several inpedance grounded generators. Because of the way it is drawn, it would only be compliant if the impedance is physically located in or at the generator. I have never seen this in the feild, although I am hardly the expert on these systems. I have always seen the impedance(s) at a remote location from the generators.
Are there generators (13.8kV) that contain an impedance internally?

Only time installing an impedance grounded neutral system was for an emergency generator on a remote skid in relation to the facility. Yes the resistor was located on top of the MCC (in a cage) inside the building with about six foot of tray, over to a wall and directly to the generator immediately outside the building.

Two stage gig -

First was audable alarm to a qualified person.

Second (if I recall right) was to go into shut down mode.
