LED retrofit lamps

with the emergance of these new linear LED lamps to retrofit existing troffers, i had a question on the safety of taking the ballast out of the loop and running the straight voltage to the sockets. can you think of any issues with regards to this?

The voltage at the lampholders is lower, but the current limiting capability of the ballast is no longer protecting the socket wiring, so a high resistance fault could possibly melt the wiring, though I have seen ballast capable of this due to arcing faults.
