I agree. IMO a recessed can is the entire setup, frame and trim.

I'd call that a fixture, or luminaire. The can is the part you nail to the joists or cut into the ceiling.

As Ken said, is the fixture listed for this application? Have your seen ceiling fans on a porch that were not exterior type fans!

I have always simply called the "Rough Housing" as shown the "CAN" and installed the TRIM and Bulb to create a Luminaire.

The frame and trim need to be listed for damp locations. You're likely to find that most cans have this rating. I've used Lightolier in the past which were rated for damp locations. I think that even the inexpensive Home Depot stuff is damp rated. It's really that simple.
