I have a 3 family house. 200amp service. 3 gang meter outside 3 100amp main breaker panels in basement. Must I use 310.16 or can I use 310.15b6 for anything. Also looking for a quick code ref to show I dont need a main disco for the whole house. 3 panels in basement are directly inside from the meter bank outside. Thank You.

Yes, you can use 310.15b6 because the entire load is being used, for each 100a panel.

No, you don't need a main disconnect until there are more than 6 meters.

I'll look elsewhere for help. So much for " No question is a stupid question"
Don't feel that way. Some members have a hard core to them but are really not bad people.

Look at art.310.15(B)((6) first sentences and see if that helps but read the entire article. It is confusing.

It's a lot less confusing when people actually read the referenced code article
You know that is not always true but I believe our posted had read it and was still confused. There was a time when you needed the extra help. Hell, I still do.

I still do, too - no doubt.

What is the alternative when the reference is posted?
Post the article verbatim?

I recall a post [actually, quite a number of them] where I "just didn't get it"....I posted the article I did not "get" [...and at that time I did not have a the benefit of the NEC on PC and hand typed it in.]....I took my lumps and with it I took a greater understanding of the NEC.

One can only direct another where to look...if that person has issue with the wording, the wording should be posted by the OP for clarity and continuity as opposed to a generalized statement of "I don't understand". WHAT is not understood, is the key to understanding.

I take lumps everyday, mostly from customers. Didnt think this was the place for dishing out lumps. Enough said, thanks for the lesson on how to post. And thanks to those who actually answered courteously.
