AFCI Troubleshooting suggestions

nice -i overlooked that and have never seen one---how much more do they cost??????
That is the Siemens solution to the idea of "Combination AFCI". The price is in the same range as the others. There is no cost adder for the LED report.

I like them as well. The memory of the last trip survives up to 30 days, or until the memory is cleared.

The GE CAFCI is licensed from Siemens, as well, but without the LED indicators.

Are these cans the Halo H99T or ICT cans? If they are the problem is in the fixtures. The socket extenders when screwed in tight will trip the arc fault. I bet if you take the extenders out and try the bulbs it will work. Try just loosening the extenders.

This has been a major problem for Halo for some time now.

Dennis,

I do have 2 of those fixtures on this circuit and the other 8 are the Halo H7AICT fixtures. I disconnected the switches and directly wired the lights to the power source and it trips with the H7AICT fixtures not the H99 fixtures.

Looks like I have to drop the cans and check the connections in these 8 fixtures.

I have not seen this problem with H& but you may have something screwy there. I have seen the arc faults trip even when the switch is off going to a H99 can with those socket extenders.

Interestingly enough, I had an odd problem today with the H99. Ho put in some compact flourescent suitable for the can. The bulbs would pulse on for a half second and then go off for a few seconds and continue the pattern. We loosened the bulb just a bit and the bulb worked fine. Something screwy in those cans

Good diagnostic. Try to guess which one is the "middle" one in the route of the wire, if you don't already know.

What's a Halo H7AICT? I couldn't find it in their catalog.....do you mean R-ICT?

If it's low-voltage, I've had troubles with LV fixtures/dimmers on combination AFCI breakers, i.e. causing them to trip.

H7AICT is a Halo, Airtight, Insulation contact. California has been requiring airtight cans for a few years now.

Judging by the date of the original post, Joebell must have figured it out.
