Can the required switch preceding the fuse be located in a non-hazardous area?

Or does the switch need to be installed at the device?

Looks like it can be anywhere preceding the fuse. But by putting it in a different location aren't you setting yourself up for not actually using it? And if it is out of sight, shouldn't it be lockable?

Try Div. 2 circuit breakers. Much better value for about $100.00.

I confess I was avoiding this one, because you're right 501.105(B)(5) doesn't actually specify a location relationship and I don't know of another relevant rule that does. I also agree with your other evaluations, except I don't know a rule that would require it to be lockable either.

What I CAN say though is, even in an unclassified location, 501.105(B)(1) still requires the enclosure to be identified for Class I, Division 1 - so where's the savings?

The OP has this equipment in a C1D2 area. The installation should not need an XP enclosure providing any of the four 105(B)(1) exceptions were met.

Fair enough, so it only has to be suitable for Division 2, even if installed in an unclassified location. I still don't see any partcilar savings and I definitely see a bad instasllation.
