Junction box for a wet Outdoor location?

An engineer says that this box is a "violation". What do you think? It is welded to a large (API) steel fuel tank. The Rigid conduit is connected with hubs. There IS a loose screw.

What is the NEMA enclosure type number for that enclosure?

The enclosure should have a NEMA enclosure type number that designates it as suitable for outdoor use.

It was installed in 1971 and has many coats of paint. NEMA only has specifications for the ratings not design drawings or photos when I checked.

Not much help there is it? However, in a similar installation he said it was a NEMA 1 box. It looks the same to me, so perhaps that is his point.

If this is in fact a NEMA 1 enclosure it is not listed for outdoor use.

Would he be happy if a rain lip were welded over the top edge of the cover? And then you could drill a couple holes in the bottom. Looks like it is just a pull box anyways.

I'd hate to see an antique box removed.
