Holiday decorative lighting GFCI

I'm helping with the layout for a large scale (3000 amps @125v) community Christmas light display. The displays will be located on city property and roped off along sidewalks off to limit puplic access. Are GFCI's required for branch circuit recepticles? NEC 2008 590.6 does'nt specify decorative lighting.

That is large scale

It is good to see the Xmas spirit is strong and bright. :cool:


410.160 refers decorative lighting to 590.3(B). The GFCI requirements are not modified, and will follow the section that 480 provided.

590.6(A) does not apply to these receptacles.
590.6 Ground-Fault Protection for Personnel.
Ground-fault protection for personnel for all temporary wiring installations shall be provided to comply with 590.6(A) and (B). This section shall apply only to temporary wiring installations used to supply temporary power to equipment used by personnel during construction, remodeling, maintenance, repair, or demolition of buildings, structures, equipment, or similar activities. This section shall apply to power derived from an electric utility company or from an on-site-generated power source.
