What are your preferred 1000W incandescent dimmer brands?

Its not cost, its functionality and durability I am interested it.

get the commercial circle ones that need there own single gang box and maybe upsize it to 1500 watts. yeah lutron thats quality and long lasting durablility.

10 years at my current position with the company as Service and Residential manager. I have never sold a dimmer that was not Lutron and can count on one hand the number of defectives I have had to replace.

The 600W Skylark (am I off topic already) is rather fragile and will burn out if controlling an incandescent lamp mounted horizontally-- when the lamp goes, a part of the falling filament will tend to short out and ruin the dimmer.

This was explained to me by Lutron Service tech-- they replaced dimmers for free in this particular installation-- I like them also !

buzz from recessed fixture

buzz from recessed fixture

I installed a Lutron dimmer switch and after installation the customer noticed a buzz from one (only one) of the recessed fixtures when the lights were dimmed to the lowest setting. The bulbs are incandescent.

Does anyone know what causes the buzz?

IMO, almost all dimmers cause buzz-- it's just a question of how much. I 've read it is because the dimmer works by "chopping off" the sine wave into more of a square wave, which causes delicate conductors to vibrate more. (urban myth?) Maybe this one has a loose physical connection for the lampholder inside which exacerbates it. If these are A bulbs, sometimes switching to a rough duty bulb helps out.

I've always had good luck with Sheng Fen Zhuo Lucky Industrial Works dimmers. I get them by the container load for a dollar a piece.

rule of thumb

rule of thumb

some dimmers by the way you control them seem to break like the circle push. or should it be called the circle punch cause i find the general public likes to make a closed fist or slap that bitch to shut it off or dim it up. thats why the adriani style lasts very long cause you gotta finger it lightly.

99% of the time its cheap bulbs.

What you don't know is that Lutron gets them off that same container for a dollar apiece and then sell them on for rather more than a buck... :)

I saw the other thread where someone was looking for "Lutron but cheaper". Looks like a very false economy to me. Even in 240V-land, Lutron kit is very highly regarded.

So yet another vote for Lutron.
