The NEC is silent on this issue - there is no issue with both in the same raceway.

i always though it was an issue and remember seeing some in the nec maybe not exactly forbidden but not a good practice

Its completly acceptable. Just as long as the line and load neutral are seperate - otherwise the GFCI will not work correctly.

The only wires to be kept apart are service conductors and feeders / branch circuits. [for residential]

The only instance I can think this may be an issue is if the line side is the service entrance conductors, and the load side is GFI protected.

I don't think there's too many instances of this happening.
