I thought I recently saw someone post some solid documentation that said field installed bonding bushings could not be used.

I can't seem to find it, does anyone remember this?

When all of the IAEI Section meetings are completed (and they were all completed in October), UL posts most of the questions and answers from the different Section meetings.

The very question you are asking was presented and answered at the Eastern Section meeting.

I wonder if UL has posted the questions & answers yet?

Check out this box.

Metal Fittings Require Bonding Bushing

The wording in the box is consistent with the wording in 314.3 Exception #1, provided that you are using metal raceways or metal armored cables. I see nothing that would let you use a metal cable connector with NM or other non-metallic wiring methods.

Until recently I have always seen it that way, but I an sure someone posted some info that really countered that position.
I think there was something, but I don't know how it could override the code rule. The exception is very limited as it only applies to metallic raceways and metallic jacketed cables. Could the previous discussion been about the use of just a metallic fitting of some sort that was not used with a metallic raceway or a metallic jacked cable?

Seems like common sense to bond it, if you were actually use one. other wise there would be an ungrounded non current carrying metal object in the box.

Is there some manufacturer who makes a factory installed bonding bushing on fittings? And did this manufacturer purchase a code section with the patent for said item? Making it's use mandatory like so many other products of late...

Not that I am aware of..

I have not heard of a restriction on field installed bonding bushings. Maybe a local thing??

If you can not use a bonding bushing in this senario, then what the heck are they supposed to be used for?

On a side note - I feel the MFG of the box pictured intends the user to use FNMC or smurftube with this KO, and just put the bonding bushing clause on the box as a "CYA"
