They have to be installed by twisting to the right.
That's the way the spring inside works.

In CT there is an EC that has a left handed splice as part of their logo.
I met the owner of that company at a code update class a few years ago.
He said that the only people that pick up on that is other electricians.

I personally do like them and have used the ones that come pre-installed in Halo cans for quite some time without a problem (you have to be sure the factory seated the tinned pigtails in all the way). I also used a ton of them in a house I where the owner wanted all the bedroom and living room outlets 1/2 switched but I seriously doubt I would trust them on any type of load like the ones you mentioned in your post Larry.

water heaters are thats pretty much all I do use the 773's on, I hated twisting the 10&12 together. stressing out the wires, stressing out my carpal tunneled hands, ect. i have done over 100 water heaters and thousands of switches without a single failure. why wouldnt I use them?

you know this is what people would say about wirenuts when "old timers" said soldering was better.
