blower speed.

i recently did a job for a relative. i installed a 10 kw heat strip in there package 5 ton a/c unit. the blower has 5 speeds.(1 thru 5), 1 being the slowest for heat cycle.

my question is how do u wire it so it makes the change from sp.1 for the heat, and then back to 5 for a/c cycle. i can manually change the wires on the blower motor, but not very convenient. any advice would be helpful.

if this isnt a question for this site.. anyone know a good hvac site??? thanks

There should be a SPDT relay that selects one of two speeds, depending on heat or cool mode. The heating isn't always set to the slowest speed. Usually, it's set to one speed slower than cooling, both of which are set according to airflow and ducting air resistance.

If i'm understanding this right, you bootlegged in a duct heater that doesn't go with the unit ? You could bootleg a relay in off the a/c or heat thermostadt wire (whichever speed isn't right) to swap the speed wire, if that's what you are trying to do ?

um no.

um no.

i put the package unit in myself several months ago. and the heat strip i installed was the one that is provided with goodman 5ton unit,
but most have a male plug that simply plugs into the female already in the unit, this one did not and im not familiar w this particular brand and no info in the manual

thanks Larry, the advice was helpful. i will try that.
