Dennis, I posted that as a Code reference to "protection against physical damage". Realizing it does not fit this situation but inferring that may be where the "infamous" 8 ft gets its roots.
I've heard of the 8 ft rule for years and that's the only reference I know of. Protection against physical damage is most often a AHJ call in these parts.

I don't doubt it but why do they only require 6" where it passes thru a floor?
