Drop ceiling extra inspection

Has anyone heard of an inspector wanting a separate drop ceiling inspection.
The way Ive always done it is to run a whip and come back after tiles are up.

This is for finishing a basement.
 
Yes it is common. We are both from NJ and I always see it required particularly on commercial sites and for all fields with work above the ceiling.
 
commonplace here... inspect ceiling after fixtures have been supported & wired before tiles are in place.
 
Yep same here call a wall rough in then a ceiling then a final. Oops forgot the csst bonding rough and final they require here...
 
The same here, all items will be in place and inspected before tiles are dropped in. Sometimes borders are allowed to be installed before the overhead inspection but, that would be coordinated with the inspector.

Exactly the same here, often we can allow 'the cuts' to be put in place but all full tiles remain out until the ceiling inspection.
 
Need an above ceiling inspection in CT. They will make you remove the tiles, and I mean all of them, except cut tiles around the perimeter and of course any tiles that have fixtures, devices, etc in them. Meaning the inspector won't just pop his head through one and look around with a flashlight.
 
If you are doing CAT5 cabling say in an office space in addition to the electric, you should have that above ceiling inspection as well at the same time if possible as it could also prevent the closing of the ceiling.
 
i could not tell you what code and when, but it seems like we never had ceiling inspections until they started to require wire strap supports for the layins. now every ceiling gets inspected.
 
Have it here too. Some inspectors don't like ladders and make clear up front, NO tiles till inspection. One G.C. tried to get away with leaving tiles out every 10 tiles in a grid pattern. No dice. Inspector said to call him back for re-inspect when tiles were removed, all of them, including cuts. It was a large big name kids pizza place/arcade. Lots of tiles.
