I'm surprised the element saw enough voltage to burn out, unless the fan was too slow, also.

The disconnect was mounted to the unit. They made a 3/4 hole in unit, knocked the ko out of the back of disconnect and did not use a chase nipple. Had a 60 amp breaker and 3ft of #10 ran from breaker to unit. Where they had it mounted the ducts covered the disconnect up.
