I was asked if NM was allowed in Wiremold, well,.............. couldn't tell ya'. I'd rather fish it than use that garbage. Bottom line,.....I have no idea,...is it????????

Another thing I do and don't remember from past threads.....what is the insulation on the conductors of NM cable? Can the sheath be stripped out and individual conductors run in a raceway?

Keeping fill requirements in mind, why not. I have, in the past, used WireMold without the back to cover the NM for protection.

334.112 Insulation.
The insulated power conductors shall be one of the types listed in Table 310.13(A) that are suitable for branch-circuit wiring or one that is identified for use in these cables. Conductor insulation shall be rated at 90?C (194?F).
FPN: Types NM, NMC, and NMS cable identified by the markings NM-B, NMC-B, and NMS-B meet this requirement.
Brad, FWIW, I hate NM and wiremold.

Here, cable is allowed.

386.22 Number of Conductors or Cables.

The number of conductors or cables installed in surface metal raceway shall not be greater than the number for which the raceway is designed. Cables shall be permitted to be installed where such use is not prohibited by the respective cable articles.
The derating factors of 310.15(B)(2)(a) shall not apply to conductors installed in surface metal raceways where all of the following conditions are met:
(1) The cross-sectional area of the raceway exceeds 2500 mm2 (4 in.2).
(2) The current-carrying conductors do not exceed 30 in number.
(3) The sum of the cross-sectional areas of all contained conductors does not exceed 20 percent of the interior cross-sectional area of the surface metal raceway.

That eerks me. I just don't see the point to not have them listed.

The conductors would have to be marked. Why would a cable manufacture pay extra to mark the individual conductors when they can make more money selling us rolls of THHN, XHHW etc.?

If I spoke my mind on Wiremold, I would get hung by one of the mod's:grin:

That code speaks of cable. My question was if in a jam, could the individual conductors in NM be pulled in a raceway?

Thanks Chris and 1793!!!

I don't really care for wiremold,But in some situations it is a nescessary evil.

Without the back plate, which I have done many time, then wiremold is not a raceway but merely a protection of the nm cable. You can sleeve nm for protection with just about anything including things not listed in chapter 3.

If I were the manufacturer, I'd rather sell you the NM cable and have you strip out the individual conductors if you needed them. That way I'm selling you more product.
