Plug in equipment above suspended ceiling

OK guys, I know this has been discussed before, but I'm still unclear.

Situation: Customer wants me to install a receptacle above suspended ceiling for a cell phone antenna extender/signal amplifier.

I know that I've read that you can't plug equipment in and leave it up in the ceiling.

I also think that I read that the story changes when your plugging in a small transformer (wallwart). That in some instances that's OK.

Can any body clarify the requirements?

The restriction is actally for cords (400.8) so the receptacle is legal.
Art 725 cables only need to address the plenum rating so a transformer with a Art 725 secondary cable could be legal.

Well, this space is not used for environmental air. Does that mean it's not an issue and I would not be in violation to proceed?

The cord restriction in 400.8 is for ANY suspended or dropped ceiling.
The Art 725 wiring should be acceptable, but not cords.

I agree with Gus.

The prohibition is not for "equipment" above a suspended ceiling but rather for flexible cords. (400.8 (2) & (5))

A Class 2 or 3 circuit or equipment can be installed above the suspended ceiling in accordance with Article 725.
