sizing for ranges

As I understand the code on ranges, table 220.19. If I have a 12.9kw 120/240
range, I calculate as follows.

12.9kw-12kw = .9kw therefore per the table and notes: 8kw x 1.05 = 8.4kw

8.4kw/240 = 35 amps good for #8 copper and from what I understand a 40 amp
breaker, though I think I could bump the breaker up to a 50 amp and still use the #8 wire per the 125% of the load. I think the range and wire are better protected with the 40 amp breaker. What say you?
