Greeting all,

I have one ceiling mounted exhaust fan in my drawing and I have connected it with a wall mounted disconnected switch. It is reachable for every one like common light switch.

I got a comment regarding this disconnect switch position. I am told that the position of disconnect switch should be in ceiling near to exhaust fan.

The height of ceiling is about to 4 meter and it will not be reachable for anyone to turn on and off it.

Please I need your explaination regarding this disconnect switch position.

The disconnect must be within sight of the exhaust fan.

That means it can be up to 50 feet away and visable from the fan.

Is the disconnect on the wall within 50 feet and visable frrom the fan?

Chris

Motor disconnect

Motor disconnect

A disconnect is required to de-energize the fan while servicing it. 2008 NEC section 430.102(B) requires the disconnect to be 'within sight from' the motor location. 'Within sight from' is defined as being within 50ft. and within line of sight. It is required to be 'readily accessible'. Confusion is sometimes created by section 404.8(A) exception no. 2 which allows disconnects adjacent to elevated motors, appliances or other equipment that they supply.
I would accept it at floor level but section 110.22(A) also requires it to be identified as the fan disconnect...

It is a 6 meters by 8 meters hall and the disconnect switch which I had positioned in wall it was completely clear nothing cause the switch to hide.

The position is like a light switch near to the door and fixture light in ceiling

What kind of fan is this and whats the purpose? are we talking about a bathroom style exhaust to provide air change?
If so you can put a disconnect means in the ceiling that is normally turned on and also connect the fan to lighting switch so that it turns on if the space is occupied.
