90.2(B)(5)(a) Says that service drops are not within the scope of the NEC

230.24 Discusses clearances required for service drops.


I'm puzzled why the code says service drops are not covered yet they have several code sections that deal specifically with service drops.

How is this possible?

Well, for one thing the NFPA can't even spell electrician correctly. I posted a thread on it a few days ago.

For another, the NFPA, like OSHA, is a conundrum of panelists so bent on complexity they often overlook the obvious. See my signature, below.
 
Some service drops are on the load side of the service point and are covered by the NEC. Most are on the line side of the service point and are covered by the NESC. For the most part the rules for service drops are the same in both codes.

As Don says if the drop is owned by the customer the NEC applies, if the drop is owned by the power company the NESC applies.
