Ansi Lamp Codes

I have been trying to find out what the numbers are behind your ansi lamp code. I understand they're to match with your ballast, but what happens if you don't match them? Fire? Shortened lamp life? I'm just hoping someone can point me in the direction of an article to understand this.

Based on your words,"ansi lamp code" gives those results all based at the folllowing web site, http://www.nssn.org/

Now I believe this is the official web site for searching ANSI (it's their own search engine), at least you can gather that from reading the legend at the bottom of the nssn.org web page. I got a piece of mail some where saying that they opened up this engine, hope this helps.

Of course www.ansi.org also exists.
