Hey I am looking up some new requirements for AFCI esp for residential.

We have a bunch of new building here at the school district where I work and I noticed that there are no AFCI CBs anywhere.

So I have not looked up the rule but I assume  that AFCI applies only to residential.
We are under the California Electrical Code.
Which is NEC plus exceptions amendments...

Oh yes, and I want to put in ;) requests for continuing education.
They are certainly :D not offered!

Got a call for help on AFCI CB that just stopped working.
I took it out and it works fine in my panel.

Now I will try a new one out of the box and see if it still keeps popping intermittently with no apparent cause.

Lots of Lightolier occupancy sensing dimmers! that i never saw before either!

Check for an unintentional equipment ground to neutral connection in the circuit that is tripping the AFCI breaker.

AFCI breakers incorporate GFPE protection which will trip at around 30 milliamps.

Actually I did not mean an actual AFCI/ GFCI combo.

Combination AFCI breakers (Not combo AFCI/GFCI) incorporate the GFPE protection.

New Unique Troubleshooting Features

The new Murray Combination Type AFCI includes unique, exclusive and patented LED trip indicators. These indicators provide a valuable analysis tool to help electricians and home owners alike pinpoint the type of problems that cause the AFCI to trip, and therefore save valuable time during troubleshooting and repair. These indicator LEDs are located near the handle of the breaker and will distinguish arcing faults, arcing to ground and overcurrent conditions.
Here is how the trip indicators work:
The LED indications will appear for 5 seconds each time the AFCI is turned ?ON? up to 30 days after the last trip. One LED will be illuminated if the last trip was a result of an arcing fault. Two LEDs will be illuminated if the last trip was a result of an arcing fault to ground. No indication will be displayed if the AFCI trips as a result of an overcurrent condition. The last known trip indication can also be manually cleared from memory to assist with verifying resolution of the problem.
