Disconnect within sight?

There is a machine needs 100 amps 3 phase, well the motor control panel, Switchgear is 120' away in electrical room. Do we need to have a disconnect in sight of the machine or we could use the disconnect on the switchgear because is lockable?

Don't know of any reason that would allow you to not have a disconnect at the controller, and in most cases, in sight (which includes within 50') of the motor. See 430.102

I agree, if he's referencing motor disconnect, it can be located remotely if lockable

sorry I was not clear enough. I meant the motor controller of this machine is in sight of the machine. Of course it has a disconnect that shutt off the power for the whole machine, motors include (3 of them) plc inside and controls. Question is if applies the same rule as being a motor that could be out of sight if lockable or it needs a disconnet before the motor controller?

The disconnect for the controller must always be within sight of the controller. The disconnect for the motor may be out of sight if you meet the strict conditions of the exception to 430.102(B).
