wiring method for hot tub

Hello i was wandering what wiring method cannot be used to supply a hot tub
attached to a side of a single family dwelling?

I was told that it was UF, but i could'nt find a article.
the only thing that i can think is that UF cannot be used if subject to physical
damage.

in 680.42 a 1, for listed package hot tubs, you can use lfmc or lfnc not longer than
6ft.

in 680.42 a 2 you can use cord and plug connection not longer than 15 ft
and protected with a GFCI.

in 680.42 c, you can use any wiring method in art. 300 that contains a copper equipment grounding conductor that is insulated or enclosed within and outer sheath.

Or would i fall under 680.23 ?

I'm puzzled, Thanks for any help:confused:
 
There are quite a few that could not be used - K&T, NM, cable tray, open conductors in free air, exposed buss work.... Most of them would boarder or exceed the ridiculous. Is there a particular choice of methods you want to use - what are they and we can see if they fit in a selection of multiple choice from a provided list.

You could use UF for this portion of the circuit:

680.42(C) Interior Wiring to Outdoor Installations. In the interior of a one-family dwelling or in the interior of another building or structure associated with a one-family dwelling, any of the wiring methods recognized in Chapter 3 of this Code that contain a copper equipment grounding conductor that is insulated or enclosed within the outer sheath of the wiring method and not smaller than 12 AWG shall be permitted to be used for the connection to motor, heating, and control loads that are part of a self-contained spa or hot tub or a packaged spa or hot tub equipment assembly. Wiring to an underwater luminaire shall comply with 680.23 or 680.33.

As Rob noted you can use, nm , uf , mc or just about any wiring method of chapter 3 for the feeder from the main panel as long as this wiring method is on the interior of the house. Once you get to the hot tub disco you would be restricted from NM , UF etc and must use other wiring methods.
 
Thanks everybody, the key is when you you go from interior to exterior.
I was thinking that was the case but get overwhelmed in some articles as how they give you the run around .I guess your never to old to learn.

Kind of hard to use 6/3 UF when it is a 1-1/2" wide flat ribbon.

I personally use plastic pipe, it goes in fast.

I have seen 6/3 600V tray cable, which is sunlight and direct burial rated. That should be okay if you sleeved it in plastic pipe coming out of the ground. Not sure how much it costs, but it is round, unlike UF, and strips alot easier.
