Got a call today about a job in New York. Specs call for a Class E Panel. What is a Class E panel?

A Class E fire alarm system in NYC is a legacy name that is still used for a high rise type system that have voice evacuation, fire comand station, etc.
The E was the Occupancy Group for a high rise in the old NYC building code.

Ron is correct. Bear in mind, most of these fire alarm panels are "proprietary" in nature meaning that you may have to be both trained and authorized to open up the panel and/or change the programming. If it's an older, hard-wired type system you may be in luck. However, from what I understand you now have to be NICET certified, at least level 2 to work on these systems. My advice - Make an inquiry before you commit to do any work.
