3 phase choke

hi all
i have an old 3 phase choke which is making a noisey sound i havent noticed this in the past wiether it runs like this or not. i'm sure it shouldnt make such a noise though.
anyway is there away i can test the windings to find if this choke is operating correctly??

it is installed as a filter before a contactor which operates a vsd drive.
any hits?

You answered yourself,... with an insult? What do you need us for? :-? ;)

Generally, when a reactor (choke would be a DC term) starts making noise, it is because the iron or steel core laminations have become loose. Not much that can be done about it but if it's relatively new, I would go back to the manufacturer with a warranty claim. They shouldn't do that.

3 Phase inductors

3 Phase inductors

I have seen the noise caused by strong harmonics on the system.
Either the VFD is causing it or harmonics on the system.
I've encountered over corrected PF causing the entire electrical system to be in a strong odd harmonic. It can cause damage to the inductors as the noise is caused by the core moving. I would look at the ststem with an O scope and see if you can determine the source.
Hope this helps.

The OP mentions "old 3 phase choke" so I suspect a warranty might not be an option.
But I agree that loose core laminations are generally the cause of increased audible noise. Changes to the supply voltage waveform caused by other equipment can also have a bearing on this.
That's for you. Not the original poster.

The initial posts by Slim shady hardly engenders a constructive response.
