I believe you are referring to jacketed MC cable and no it is not allowed in a plenum ceiling 2008 NEC300.22(c)1

I agree with Rick,
If what you are referring to is PVC jacketed MC cable then it could not be used in either a plenum or other spaces used for environmental air (Which is what is commonly referred to as a plenum ceiling). See 300.22(C)
