I have a simple question I cant figure out. Why do or why is a service upgrade (say 100 amp to 200amp) considered or called a heavy up? Whats heavy about it? Should it not be called a standard up? How did that name come about?

I only ask because I hate to title something when I really dont know what it means, and I hate to just go with the flow because thats what everyone calls it.

Wheew..... Thanks......I am not alone. I hate the term and dont use it unless someone mentions it first.

Here in Northern Virginia, "heavy up" is the most popular term. I always use "service change" or "service upgrade." Heavy up seems like a good name to me, or maybe we should call it a "beef up."

1st time I've heard the term too. I always called it a service change, sometimes an upgrade. Might use "beef up" for detailed explanation to customer.

No matter what item or procedure we use or do, someone has a different name for it somewhere. I knew 1 guy who called jiffy clips "Madison bars", had a helper who loved to call tie wraps "zip strips". Some call anything flex that isn't hard pipe, etc.
