I have to go look at another situation where a customer is going through pool motors. (the third since fall) I'm not really sure what to look for. I posted a similar message before. When I looked at the feeder every thing was in spec. Although, I was just thinking this one particular was in direct Florida sunlight. Could this cause premature winding failure?

I will be going to look at this new problem in the next day or two and will follow up....

if you suspect the sunlight paint the motor white, or find a white cover to put over it but still allows air flow, caculate the voltage drop, voltage drop can be a killer for motors, even a 5%voltage drop can cause it to stay on the start winding longer and pull a much higher current in run. other then that, I wouldn't know with out seing it, open type motor don't seem to last as long a sealed motors also in the elements.
