When do you have to fuse a disconnect for an AC unit?

I understand if you have breaker that is too large amps wise you will have to install a disconnect with the appropriate sized fuses.

According to what I have read, I think I have to install a fused disconnect whenever the AC unit nameplate mentions a max. fuse size, even if it shows a max fuse and breaker size. :-?

And the fuse would not necessarily need to be in the disconnect located by the unit, although that would be the most commonly seen installation.

If the unit says fuse or breaker you can use just the breaker. A fuse is not required.

I believe the breakers have to be HACR rated. Most brands are.
