:confused:I would like some opinions on the req's of mechanical protection of the emergency system 517.31.The allowance for listed flexible metal raceways and cable assemblies note (3) do they mean listed for use or as mechanically protected or both. Im talking about aluminum mc cable!

I think you're talking about 517.30(C)(3)(3).

The short story is, plain jane MC is not allowed because of 517.13(A), HCFC or FMC would be allowed if any of the conditions of 517.30(C)(3) were met.

FMC would have to be installed per the requirements of 250.118

yes 517.30(c),(3),(3) my mistake but 517.13(A) says the sheath must itself must qualify. I do not belive aluminum meets this requirement hfc or not
Aluminum HCFC does indeed meet the requirement by the aluminum runner inside the sheath.

Meeting the requirements of 517.13(A) & (B) is the sole purpose for HCFC existing.

Even aluminum AC meets the requirement of 517.13(A) but it does not meet the requirement of 517.13(B)

For more information about aluminum HCFC click here and look under "Reference and Ratings" you will see it complies with 250.118 and all of 517.13
