Texas PSI Test-Questions

I took the test this morning.

I did not pass. I am not as disappointed as I was in the past. I feel good about the PSI format. It seems "plainer" than the ICC test. The proctor was cool.

I tried to remember some of the questions I couldnt find....

One of them is something along the lines of :

An outdoor temporary pole must be:
a) watertight...
b) waterproof....
c) weathertight.....
d) weatherproof...

You get the point. I couldnt find ANYTHING close to the answer. I burned time thinking "hey, this is a quick look up and click type question". WRONG!!!

Give it a shot and let me know what you find. Remember, I didnt have the NEC 2008 on cd. (hint, hint)

Not specific enough to answer the question...the answer should state a word like " watertight,waterproof,etc..." 230.53 just says "wet location.

Assuming this a temporary service pole.

Then:

590.4 General.
(A) Services. Services shall be installed in conformance
with Parts I through VIII of Article 230, as applicable.


and then:

II. Overhead Service-Drop Conductors
230.23 Size and Rating.
(A) General. Conductors shall have sufficient ampacity to
carry the current for the load as calculated in accordance
with Article 220 and shall have adequate mechanical
strength.
(B) Minimum Size. The conductors shall not be smaller
than 8 AWG copper or 6 AWG aluminum or copper-clad
aluminum.

The idiot that came up with those questions does not need to be coming up with test questions.

Just have a non electrician read the second question:

The answer is do you want the min or max - the rest of the question does not even matter until this is determined.

I did a search for the word 'pole' and there were not even any hits in 590.

There is no such thing as a temporary pole in 590. A temporary service can be on a pole but the pole is not covered by 590. This means the pole would be covered by chapters 1-4. About all I can find here is 110.13 A which says - Electrical equipment shall be firmly secured to the surface on which it is mounted. Nothing about what the surface should be.
