What code/code section states, when normal power is lost, the amount of time that the Fire Pump ATS has before it needs to switch Emergency power? Is the Fire Pump a life safety load that must come on within 10 seconds or can it come on within 60 seconds? I want to show this to my colleagues in the code. THis is for a 5 story project in Miami, Florida (School) and I am having this discussion with my colleagues. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.)

Based on 2005 NEC.

10 sec start-up time
Emergency Systems (NEC 700.12)
Fire Pumps (NFPA 20, 9.6.2.1)
Health Care Facilities (NEC 517.31, & NFPA 99 3-4.3.1)

60 sec start-up time
Legally Required Standby (NEC 701.11)

No defined start-up time
Optional Standby (NEC 702)

There is an NFPA article on this, and I have it laying around somewhere, but can't find it at this moment, It covers fire pump installations, fire pump with generator installs and such. It also requires the transfer switch to be installed in the same room as the fire pump. It also requires extensive testing and maintaince of the generator. You will need to know this if you install one in Beaver Creek, Ohio:roll:

Thanks for the help guys! NFPA 20 (9.6.2.1) and NFPA 110 Table 4.1(b) show that the Fire Pump has to be on in 10 seconds.
