Ordered copper range cable from the supply house the other day and got #8. My boss says it needs to be #6. Im not sure either way. What information do I need to know to see who is correct here?

Upon a more detailed search I found an thread on the forum that explains that for NM you must use the 60 degree column. It is a 50A breaker.

Does the range need a 50 amp breaker. Most standard ranges use a 40 amp breaker.

Which is where I was going with my question. :)

With the 40 the #8 NM or SEU would be fine, with the 50 the #6 would be needed.

8/3 copper NM with a 40 amp breaker has become the standard.

#8 copper or #6 aluminum SE on a 50 used to be the standard.
