Are bathroom vanity fixtures required to be on GFCI? We have not been able to determine that in NEC.
Thanks

According to exibit to 210.9 in the NEC 2008 handbook, The light can be powered via general lighting circuit.

Vanity lights have never been required to be GFCI protected in a bathroom by the NEC. I have never seen a listed fixture that requires it either but there may be.

I have seen many fans that call for GFCI protection if installed over a shower but the NEC is silent on that issue.

Now add a hot tub, not hydromassage tub, and the rules go to article 680.

Oh, true. And the OP was re vanity lights, not shower lights. I just thought I'd throw that out. Comes from having too much free time during this marvelous recession we're enjoying...
