We are installing a 1 meg generator on the roof of a building in lower manhattan and we were just told that the noise cannot be higher than 42 dba when the generator and load bank are running.

Where can I find the noise restrictions for generators for NYC?
I have looked online and cannot find anything for generators.
The NYC codes are confusing.

Can anyone help?

That's what the guy from the DEP said when he was responding to a complaint while we were testing.

We were at 80 dB when the generator was running with the load bank.

Generators on movie sets are probably that quiet. I'm sure there's a way to do it. Like I tell contarctors, you don't worry about the cost, we'll get it right if it costs every penny you have.

Yes, they are; they are quieter than the ambient noise, like quieter than wind rustling trees at a distance.

Based on the observation that they aren't hugely more expensive to rent than a standard Cat genset, I'd suggest that they can't cost a huge amount more than a quality genset would anyway.

You're probably right about the cost. I meant to put a smiley face after the second part of my post.
