In an apartment building with 16 units that are being rehabbed due to a fire caused by a tipped-over candle, a 1/2 inch continuous plastic sprinkler pipe runs horizontonally 30 inches above the unit's 100 amp panel. Both panel and sprinkler pipe are installed inside the same stud run. All wiring enters the bottom of the panel.
Is there a danger with this? Should it pass inspection?
Thanks

Piping and other facilities shall not be considered foreign if
provided for fire protection of the electrical installation.

So if the pipe has a sprinkler head over the panel its ok, but if it doesn't it's a violation:confused:

Thats just plain goofy:grin: if a fire breaks out in the panel I don't think it will need a spray head with plastic pipe, the pipe will become one lol

Since these are apartment house panels I doubt they are over 600 volts so it is not 110.34 but 110.26 that would apply. 110.26(E)(1)(c) allows sprinkler protection in the dedicated space provided it meets the requirements of 110.26(E) which would require drip protection at least 6 feet above the panel.

Code section is 110.26 F 1 C if in 2008.
It may still be a violation due to 110.26 F 1 A
Only the OP with a tape measure can tell.
However the drip protection can be located right above the panel and not at 6 ft or above. 110.26 F 1 b

Just never seen plastic for sprinkler system. Just

Too me, 110.26 (F)(1)b looks pretty clear that above the dedicated space is ok for foreign piping. Above the dedicated space means at least 6 feet above the panel.
