How do you make a wire tracer from a old set of phones and a 9 volt battery.

You sell them on eBay then use the money to buy a tracer. :roll: What is the intent of the question?

I'm on a large machine relocation job in South Carolina. The machines where taken out of south Africa by another company and we need to do alot of traceing. Standard wire tracers do not work well due to interferance from the VFD's that are in the cabinet. All you end up with is alot of static rather than a tone.

Many meters have a continuity position, ohms, with a beeper.

My Fluke on the diode position has a continuous tone below 100 ohms, a short beep at 249 ohms and 1000 ohms, and does not beep at 2000 ohms.

So the transition points are between 100 and 249, and 1000 and 2000.
