I looked at a job another electrican started and left. I noticed in the Main Panel that there is no green bonding screw or strap, I haven't taken the job yet and so I did not get my meter out to see if its bonded. I can't remember if Sq D QO Main Breaker panels are bonded with out the use of a screw at the factory. I know some Manufactures have a scew or a strap that you remove if using it as a subfeed.

I am reveiwing my notes as I am trying to give her a price on finishing what still needs to be done. (T&M for all that was started by the other guy) and came across that note.

Thanks

thanks then panel is not bonded, I will let her know even if I do not get the job to at least let the person that gets the job to check it out...

It is possable that your grounding and grounded conductors are bonded at the meter socket
Therefor you would not use the green screw at your panel:)

Normally, there would be no EGC at the meter. The premises EGC system begins at the main disconnect.

If that is in this panel, the bond should be installed. If it's ahead of this panel, the bond should not be made here.

Is this panel supplied by both a neutral and an EGC, or just the neutral? That's usually a clue, but not always.

Trivia about service entrance equipment.

The phrase "Suitable for Use as Service Entrance" means there is a removable/installable bonding method between the neutral and ground.

The phrase "Suitable only as Service Entrance" means the neutral and ground are permanently bonded by the factory.

Thanks, that is what I was wondering cause I have seen them both just been a while since I have installed a square d panel well at least a QO.

At the Panel (Main Breaker) its 3wire and that was what made me think about that when I did not see a bonding screw, also that the EGC's and Neutrals are on the same buss

Thanks again

With neutrals and EGC's on the same bus, the jumper, which only bonds the enclosure in such a case, must still be installed.

I will check and make sure (if I get the job) if its "Suitable for Use as Service Entrance" or "Suitable only as Service Entrance" and deal with it accordingly.

thanks for all the quick responses

Is that Neutral connected to the bus with the EGC's and Neutrals?:-?

Most QO panels (load centers) are suitable for use as service equipment. You have to ensure there is a main breaker present (or a max of 6 breakers), and install that green bonding screw, or a properly sized bonding jumper to accomplish this.

Their meter/main panels are ONLY suitable for service equipment use, since meter boxes inherently have the neutral bonded to the can, without requiring a green screw. You can't unbond one of those.
