A section of the NEC 2005 code (690.64(B)(2) has an exception "for a dwelling unit". Does this exception apply if the work is on the PLP service of a multifamily apt bldg.? The loads on the PLP service are things like common area lighting, elevator, compactor, laundry room, etc in a 180 unit apt bldg.

Don't have access to 2005 NEC currently, so what is 690.64(B)(2) and the exception you refer to? ...this has apparently changed in the 2008 version.

Typically if the NEC states "for a dwelling unit", whatever is being referred to applies only to a dwelling unit, or each dwelling unit in a complex, but not the entire complex or its non-dwelling unit circuits and loads.

Also, what does PLP stand for?

In my opinion, the exception would NOT apply.

The definition of a "dwelling unit" is: A SINGLE UNIT, providing complete.....

It sounds like you're trying to connect the PV systems to the house loads service or feeder in a "multifamily dwelling."
