Hi Leg Delta

Hello to everyone!!
Just a general question to see where I stand. On a hi leg delta service the hi leg is "C" phase (in CO) which reads 208 to ground and 240 amongst any other two phases. The other two are 120 to ground. My question is
1. Can you run single phase 240 loads off the hi leg and another phase so long as it doesn't need the neutral, as do newer ranges for example. And
2. My understanding is yes as long as the breaker is rated for 240, not 120/240. Am I understanding correctly?
Thanks to all!!

Daddio, welcome to the forum! :)

1. Can you run single phase 240 loads off the hi leg and another phase so long as it doesn't need the neutral, as do newer ranges for example.
Absolutely. The high leg does not have to be orange where the neutral is not included, but it's allowed.

2. My understanding is yes as long as the breaker is rated for 240, not 120/240. Am I understanding correctly?
Absolutely again. The first number is max volts line-to-ground; the second is max volts line-to-line.

All the breakers need to be 240 v rated. Even the single pole breakes if they are used.
What is your source of information?

AFAIK, single-pole breakers used for 120V Line-to-Neutral loads (A-N or C-N) can be 120/240 rated.

I thought that all the breakers in a high leg system needed to be fully rated.

My bad.
